Stuart McDowall, Managing Director

Stuart McDowall brings over 28 years of professional civil engineering design experience across Australia, India and the United Kingdom. His expertise spans a wide spectrum of civil engineering - encompassing design, documentation, supervision, contract administration and subdivisional works. His career highlights include involvement in master-planned residential sub-divisional projects, industrial and commercial sub-divisional developments, as well as highways planning and design, stormwater drainage, and urban stormwater management systems. Stuart ascended into the role of Managing Director in late 2023 and his leadership qualities and strategic vision will undoubtedly contribute to the firm’s continued growth and success.

Stuart’s commitment to excellence is a testament to his alignment with KNg’s old-school values, where a strong work ethic and dedication to quality are paramount. Having collaborated with various local authorities and consulting practices, both large and small, his journey has been enriched by learning from many seasoned professionals. This diverse experience has honed his comprehensive problem-solving capabilities and equipped him with firsthand management skills. Stuart places a strong emphasis on mentorship and is dedicated to passing on his knowledge to the new generation of talent within the firm.

Geoff Greenhalgh, Director

CPEng, RPEQ, NER
Geoff Greenhalgh, previous Managing Director with KNg boasts a remarkable 40+ years of professional civil and structural engineering experience, spanning both England and Australia. His extensive and diverse portfolio encompasses a wide spectrum of projects, including subdivisional works, arterial roads, retirement villages, residential and commercial developments, institutional facilities, industrial complexes, water storage structures and bridges. His client-centred, hands on approach exemplifies why KNg has been so successful over the years and has garnered a loyal base of repeat clients.

Geoff's journey with KNg commenced in 1984 when it was known as EW Karamisheff. He joined as a civil/structural engineer and quickly made his mark within the company. In 1988, he ventured to establish a branch office in Cairns, where he assumed responsibility for all projects undertaken in North Queensland. This included overseeing the construction of a remarkable 16-storey office building and several eight-storey residential apartment complexes. With his exceptional qualifications, Geoff earned the distinction of becoming a Director in 1991, and in 2005, he ascended to the role of Managing Director.

Geoff's illustrious career at KNg has seen his involvement in numerous noteworthy projects, including the expansion of the Arthur Gowrie Correctional Centre in Wacol, the development of Trilogy on the Esplanade (residential towns in Cairns), the Coomera Springs Residential Development, Newport Estate in Redcliffe, North Lakes Residential & Industrial Estates, Yarrabilba Residential & Industrial Estates, and Providence Estate. Geoff’s unwavering commitment to engineering excellence and his impressive body of work make him a true pillar in the industry and a driving force behind the success of KNg. Geoff is deeply committed to knowledge sharing within the engineering field and has had a profound influence through his role as a mentor to emerging engineers. His guidance has proven instrumental in assisting his team in navigating the complexities of the industry, contributing to the continued success of KNg.

Robert Mander, Director

BEng (Civil), MIEAust, CPEng, NER, RPEQ
Robert Mander, a Senior Civil Engineer, began his journey with KNg in 2006. Over the years, he evolved within the company, earning his place as Director in 2016. With an impressive 25+ years of engineering experience spanning the consulting, commercial/building, and construction sectors, Robert has made significant contributions to many civil engineering projects. From initial feasibility studies to the final construction phase, he oversees all of the phases and his expertise has been favourably recognized in the industry.

Robert holds CPEng and RPEQ qualifications and is an active member of the Institute of Engineers Australia. His responsibilities at KNg have primarily revolved around residential subdivisions, civil works associated with infrastructure to support the subdivisions as well as commercial/building projects and a strong focus on land development, earthworks, roads, drainage, sewer, water infrastructure and project management. His proficiency in these areas is highly regarded by clients and industry professionals.

At KNg, Robert has been instrumental in leading key roles on several notable projects including his involvement in the North Lakes and Yarrabilba Subdivisions, encompassing the Commercial Precinct and Business Park Developments, as well as contributions to Gainsborough Greens, Coomera Springs, Sovereign Pocket and Providence Residential Developments. He has also been pivotal in projects like the Yarrabilba Sewer Pump Station and rising sewer main to Logan Village, and overseeing the External Trunk Sewer works from North Lakes to the Murrumba Downs Wastewater Treatment Plant.

With his wealth of experience and qualifications, Robert continues to be a driving force in the world of civil engineering, making significant contributions to the industry and the success of KNg. But, engineering isn't his only passion. Robert also holds a 2nd Dan Black Belt in Taekwondo and finds great value in teaching this martial art and self-defence. The discipline and focus he has gained from Taekwondo have translated seamlessly into his engineering career, making him a better problem solver and leader. Additionally, he is deeply committed to mentorship, which is a large part of his role at KNg - Robert believes in giving back to the next generation of engineers and empowering them with the knowledge and guidance they need to succeed.

Mark Shaw, Director

B Eng (Hons) Civil, MIEAust, RPEQ
Mark Shaw stands as a testament to excellence in civil engineering, boasting a career of over 32 years. Armed with a Bachelor of Engineering and RPEQ qualification, he has seamlessly progressed from a grassroots-level designer to his current esteemed position as a Director at KNg.

Beginning with a focus on residential subdivisions and infrastructure civil works in South East Queensland, Mark's expertise encompasses design, documentation, supervision, and contract administration for subdivisional works. His commitment to excellence propelled him into pivotal roles on major infrastructure projects under the jurisdiction of the Department of Transport and Main Roads and Unitywater. Transitioning to KNg in 2013, Mark embraced the collaborative ethos of a small firm, relishing the learning and mentorship opportunities it provided. His role as a Senior Civil Engineer and eventual elevation to Director in 2019 due to his commitment to building strong client relationships, and excellent work on several master-planned communities including the North Harbour Residential Estates and North Lakes. No surprise that now in his current role as Director, Mark enjoys taking on the role of mentoring junior staff and implementing staff training programs.

Outside of work, Mark enjoys spending time with his family getting outdoors with his two active dogs and watching sports. He values finding a balance between work and personal life. Mark stands as a testament to the values of KNg, where dedication, expertise, continuous learning, and a bottom-up approach are integral to success. His journey from a designer to Director reflects not only his personal and professional growth but also the thriving culture of talent cultivation within the organization.

Eric Grywacheski, Director

B.Sc (Env) Eng, CPEng, NER, RPEQ
Eric Grywacheski embarked on his journey with KNg in 2015 as a Senior Civil Engineer. His dedication and expertise in the field quickly earned him the distinction of Director in 2019, a testament to his exceptional contributions to the company.

Before joining KNg, Eric had already accumulated an impressive amount of experience in the municipal and civil engineering sectors, with a successful career spanning both Canada and Australia. His work has encompassed diverse consulting service areas, including Land Development, Industrial/Commercial and Infrastructure. Eric's commitment to professional excellence is exemplified by his achievement of the prestigious RPEQ (Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland) and CPEng (Chartered Professional Engineer) qualifications, symbolising his unwavering commitment to maintaining the highest standards in engineering.

Eric takes pride in his reputation as a boots-on-the-ground senior Engineer, widely respected throughout the industry for his tireless work ethic and real-life industry experience. His recognition is a reflection of the culture of learning that KNg fosters, where hands-on knowledge is not just valued but also actively shared.

In his current role at KNg, he has the critical responsibility of overseeing the design, coordination, supervision, and contract administration of master-planned residential developments and associated infrastructure. He strives to maintain that every project meets the exacting standards of KNg, exceeding client expectations and industry norms. Throughout his tenure at KNg, Eric's primary focus has been on residential subdivisions and the management of complex marine environment bulk earthworks projects, with notable achievements at the Newport and Promenade Projects. In addition to his project management responsibilities, he holds several pivotal roles within the company. These include acting as a qualified consultant for the Moreton Bay Regional Council's MB+ program, and Major Certifier for Unitywater's A&C system and currently serving as the UDIA Branch Committee Member - Ipswich.

One of Eric's great achievements came in 2018 when he spearheaded the establishment of KNg’s first ISO 9001:2015 accredited system. This milestone underscores his unwavering dedication to upholding the highest standards of quality and excellence in every facet of the company's operations.

When Eric isn't fully immersed in engineering projects, he's often spending time with his family, or exploring all the outdoor adventures Australia has to offer. This passion for life and adventure seamlessly aligns with his unwavering drive for excellence, making him a standout professional in both his field and his pursuits.

Amy Bamford, Associate Director

Amy Bamford, the latest addition to the leadership team at KNg, brings a wealth of experience as a seasoned civil engineer with strong business acumen. Amy's expertise is centred around civil infrastructure design, particularly within the dynamic and continually evolving urban development landscape.

In her current role at KNg as Associate Director, she is responsible for the design, coordination, supervision, and contract administration of several residential subdivisions and their associated infrastructure. Notably, she leads the charge on the Eden's Crossing project, a substantial 1268-lot subdivision situated within the Ipswich City Council area. This project, set against the backdrop of varying soil conditions and the complexities of existing established estates, showcases Amy's prowess in navigating intricate design challenges.

Throughout her career, she has artfully balanced her involvement in public infrastructure projects, including schools, highway upgrades, bikeways, streetscapes, and private residential developments ranging from small-scale subdivisions to master-planned communities. She also is serving as KNg’s Quality Management System Manager in addition to her regular duties.

Amy's extensive experience highlights her dedication, expertise, and commitment to providing practical solutions in civil engineering and urban development. She values the close-knit environment at KNg, where a blend of old-school values and a hands-on management approach defines the firm's unique character, allowing her to thrive in her role.

Mark Shinkel, Associate

Mark Shinkel brings more than 30 years of invaluable expertise to the team, he recently seamlessly integrated into the organization, having previously undertaken substantial work alongside the KNg team. With extensive and significant experience in the civil engineering industry, Mark specializes in trunk roadway and major highway design. His experience includes major trunk road corridor planning and the diligent delivery of detailed designs. Mark's proficiency extends to navigating TMR design guidelines, showcasing his capability in handling complex residential and rural highways and motorways.

In his current role as an Associate at KNg, Mark plays a pivotal role in planning and provides adept management and leadership to the civil design team. Mark's meticulous attention to detail in design and documentation, coupled with his keen recognition of project timelines, ensures that clients receive the best product within stipulated time frames. In addition to his core responsibilities, Mark actively contributes to the technological advancement of the company by assisting in software customization. His role extends to overseeing and providing technical expertise to new drafters and engineers and fostering a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment within the KNg team.

Beyond his professional achievements, Mark is a dedicated family man who finds joy in backcountry camping adventures and being outdoors. Outside the office, he is an avid road cyclist, having covered an impressive 14,000 kilometres in a year, embracing the thrill of the open road. These interests further a healthy work-life balance and as well as being a valued member of the KNg team.
